Before becoming President, I had been a member of
the Management Committee for 8 years, as Secretary
General. When in 1992 I was asked to do this work, I
did not need much time to reflect because from the
very beginning I was convinced that ECTA was – and
still is – an association worthwhile to work for.
Essential for me was ( besides the invaluable work
done for the development of European trade mark law)
the supranational European feeling which prevails in
our association. When we come together, the British,
French, Germans, etc. are no longer primarily
British, French, German, but we are all primarily
Europeans. If ECTA had not already existed, it
should very urgently have be an invented. And I
would add that for building up
Europe we would need many more ECTA’s.
