A TASTE OF PORTO – An ongoing battle for Designations of Origin
Did you know that the first protected wine-growing region was the DEMARCATED REGION OF THE DOURO, created in 1756 in order to ensure the quality of Port wine? What is the relevance of the protection of geographical indications to economic development and what are the prospects for the future? This and other interesting matters will be debated in depth at this Round Table, organised for you precisely in the city of Porto.

The Community Trade Mark and the National Trade Marks
Are they in Harmony?
The German point of view
German Patent and Trade Mark Office
Munich
ECTA is organizing a series of Round Tables between ECTA, OHIM and the EU National Trade Mark Offices, including the Germany Patent and Trade Mark Office (GPTO).
The Round Table (in German language) is divided into 3 parts:
- 1. Office Practice at OHIM in comparison to the Office Practice at the GPTO (e.g. registration, classification, etc….)
- 2. Proceedings before OHIM and the Boards of Appeal in comparison to proceedings before the GPTO and the German Federal Patent Court (terms, new assertions, official appraisal)
- 3. Jurisdiction of the European Court in trade mark matters: Implications for the official practices in Alicante and Munich. By repeating this Round Table on identical topics in the various EU countries, ECTA hopes to be able to provide and gather a better understanding of the effective impact of OHIM activities and the CTM system in the various member states and to learn from the experience of the practitioners in the respective countries. This would contribute to the debate on the EU system to take place at the Commission level and hopefully to further harmonize the various practices at the EU level.
